COLUMBUS, OHIO - A federal judge has blocked a Department of Labor (DOL) rule which was to take effect Dec. 1 and raised the threshold from receiving mandatory overtime pay from $23,660 to $47,476 per year, or $455 to $913 per week, according to a release by HARDI. U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant of the Eastern District of Texas imposed an injunc- tion against the rule Nov. 22 at the request of 21 states and several business groups. The judge said the Labor Department reg- ulation exceeded the authority granted it by Congress, which he said gave DOL the right to define which workers are considered salaried but only based on the duties they (Turn to Overtime... page 63.)
